The Express Entry Program is a points-based immigration system introduced by the Canadian government in 2015 to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. The program is designed to select candidates who are most likely to succeed economically in Canada, based on their skills, work experience, education, and language abilities.
How It Works
Applicants create an online profile and enter the Express Entry pool, where they are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded for various factors including:
Age
Educational qualifications
Skilled work experience
Language proficiency in English and/or French
Adaptability (such as Canadian education or a job offer)
Candidates with the highest CRS scores receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency through regular draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Programs Under Express Entry
Express Entry manages applications under three main federal economic immigration streams:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Additionally, provinces and territories can select candidates through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) using Express Entry, allowing applicants to earn additional CRS points and improving their chances of receiving an ITA.
Streamlined and Efficient Processing
After receiving an ITA, applicants have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency. The process is highly efficient, with most applications processed within six months, making it one of the fastest routes to permanent residence for skilled workers in Canada.
